Bookworms and DIY superheroes

Hi Jura
friends and supporters,

Does this sound like
you?
By day, a mild-mannered bookworm reading about social
ecology, learning the guitar and munching organic fruit. By night a rioting DIY superhero with the power to smash the State, fight imperialism and change people's lives. If so, read on. These upcoming events are for you...

(A) Book Club - Murray Bookchin. This time we'll be discussing Murray Bookchin's 'Ecology and Revolutionary Thought'. This essay marks the first time that Bookchin moved solidly away from Marxism to a new, and anarchist, conception of the 'environmental problem'. In it he defines the matter in 'social' terms, something that was not thought about until then by anyone in the post-war era. Bookchin grounded the reasons for what we are doing to the planet in our social form - hierarchy and capitalism. From these ideas has sprung the world wide movement of Social Ecology. The essay can be found in the book 'Post-Scarcity Anarchism' available in the Jura bookshop and library. The article is also online at http://theanarchistlibrary.org/HTML/Lewis_Herber__Murray_Bookchin___Ecology_and_Revolutionary_Thought.html
and http://dwardmac.pitzer.edu/Anarchist_Archives/bookchin/ecologyandrev.html
All welcome!
