22 Jul 2006 - 18:00
22 Jul 2006 - 21:00
Location:

Jura Books440 Parramatta RoadPetersham

Description:

July 2006 marks the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.At the same time as defending themselves against the facists, the anarchists in the east of Spain undertook one of the broadest and most successful processes of anarchist revolution the world has ever seen. The workers and peasants collectivised land and industry and set up local councils to organise life democratically. The success of these agrarian collectives survives in the minds of anarchists today as an example of how anarchist society can flourish - even in the most adverse conditions. We will be showing archival footage from 1936 as well as a film on the organisation of the Mujeres Libres - the self organised anarchist womyn who fought in the civil war and played a major role in the social revolution. There will also be an introductory talk on anarchists in the Spanish Civil War.
Food and drink available. $5 Donation or less for unwaged etc.
