3. Posters
Jeremy: there's been some newfound interest in the our poster collection this month. Kernow and others from Big Fag Press, MCA and other collectives/organisations requested 15 of those to display during the launch of a new printing press at little fish gallery in June but Jeremy vetoed that idea. He felt that the posters should be used in conditions where more consensus and organisation is involved, for the good of the posters (and their preservation) and for the greater good of the Jura collective. Believes discussions should take place – at later stage, about what should and can be done about preserving them and maintaining them.
1.4. Gig
Fez: reads out proposal by Andrew, thinks its a great idea as it could open up opporunities for a new audience, a late night punk audience. Jeremy expresses concerns about having the gigs run later than midnight, and if there are a medium to large number of punks (or drunk punks) here, might attract cop attention. In this instance, running a bar might not be a good idea. In which case BYO. Collective voices support the idea, a few questions concerning time. Fez will liase with Andrew and voice concerns and queries.
5. Fundraising
Jeremy calls out for volunteers with fundraising ideas.
- jeremy proposes that supporters can pay $50 and will receive an exclusive tasteful well designed metal pin/badge or a limited edition poster, linocut. Collective is more keen on posters than badges. Jeremy calls out for people to speak with other artists about designing a poster.
-john proposes that we administer slips that supporters could fill out – with the name of a book they would like us to stock in the library, and we inscribe their name in the cover as : donated to Jura by.....
-Design Competition: design a jura poster, the best design will get produced - 1000 copies, other runners up might also get produced – to commemorate 30years of jura, and to give as a gift to big money supporters, who might receive a signed copy of the winning poster, or a package of posters. Nienke volunteers to write up a flyer: ad for it.
-Jeremy proposes a Jura FACEBOOK account, so that supporters and friends can add 'cyber friends' and to extend our network. Jeremy will look into it, Nienke will work on MYSPACE account.
-19-27th July PiO is in town and would like to showcase his book. Fez will take it all on board. Organise a spoken word, poetry night with possibly hip hop, focus on PiO's book and fundraiser. Fez will liase with PiO, other artists, and make up a flyer, the whole lot. Jeremy will liase with citizen Tom and cc fez via email.
-Sale: to be raised at next meeting
5.Library: John came in to discuss progress with the library and offers help. Ideas discussed: fundraising events some time in the future and asking people to donate a book to the library and having the person's name on a bookplate in the title. Postponed this for after the library has been re-established. Working bee will be on the July 19th & 20th, mainly on the skirting boards. Sid will seek to finalise negotiations about buying the bookshelves from Chris of Astam Books.
6.LAGS (Local Archive of Global Stories): Fez and Jason are looking to start collecting the oral stories of people who have been involved in struggle: anarchist and wider struggles, too. This will be 'housed' in the Fanya Baron Workers Library. But another part of the plan is for a new Web-based podcast radio show (this part of the idea is put a little into the future, after a stock of interviews are collected). Fez will liase with Sid for some contacts.
7.Safer Spaces Policy: posponed until Trinni can come in.
8.Opening Hours: Now open extra hours on Friday: 11am – 7pm (thanks Fez!). Sunday is a little difficult so some Sundays need help. Eddie will talk to Trinni and Jeremy will talk to Andrew and ?, and Fez will ask Luke.
9.Mail: an IT letter is declared junk and a lovely postcard came from Lilia in the Huon Valley Environment Centre saying thanks and sending a cheque for $365 for books purchased.
10.Special Announce: Jeremy passed around the next special announce draft.
11.Cataloging the shop stock: software not yet uploaded, but work can go on in putting items on the current website.
12.A-Fed meeting at Black Rose: a meeting will be held at BR on Sunday 29th. Jura supports the idea and Fez will be attending.
13.Next Meeting: Thursday 24th: 5.30pm.
Meeting closed: 7.55pm.
