Climate camp
Helensburgh, 40 minutes south of Sydney
Join Jura collective members and friends at Climate Camp!
Climate Camp will be three days of sustainable living and community action in Helensburgh, 40 minutes south of Sydney on Dharawal land. We’ll be near Metropolitan Collieries, Australia’s oldest coal mine.
We are parents, youths, locals, and workers who are excited about coming together at Climate Camp ’09. We want to protect our precious water catchments from more damage and pollution by coal mining. We know coal is fuelling climate change – together we can begin the transition to a renewable future. People deserve good jobs in clean and safe industries.
Pitch your tent alongside hundreds of others – or stroll in for an afternoon – for great workshops, music, food and positive climate action.
If you're concerned about our future and want to do something about it, Climate Camp is for you. Fed up with government tokenism and corporate spin? Come and see how you can make a real difference.
Climate Camp is for all of us – because when it comes to water, climate and jobs, actions speak louder than words.
Climate change won’t just go away until we – that’s you and me – get together at Climate Camp ’09 with our kids and parents, our neighbours and friends, and begin building solutions together.
More information
Last year, the Camp for Climate Action at Newcastle was a resounding success, building to a climax in which over a thousand people joined a peaceful protest to stop trains transporting coal and focus the nation’s attention on the polluting coal industry.
Australia’s emissions are still rising. At a time when we need to be urgently cutting greenhouse pollution, Australian governments are approving new coal mines and considering the expansion of the Metropolitan Colliery mine that is already damaging Sydney and Illawarra’s water catchment.
Coal mining is destroying our health, our water and our climate. We need community action to demand a renewable future.

Anarchism in the 21st century
Jura Books
What form should anarchism take in the 21st century? What relevance does the last 150 years of anarchist history have? What's the difference between anarchism and anarcho-syndicalism? What do anarchist ideas have to offer in light of the current economic and climate crises? What about the tensions between employment, unemployment, and re-employment? Come and consider these questions with us (and raise more) at the first of a series of Jura Talks - Left Libertarian Discussions. Our first talk is on 'Anarchism in the 21st Century'. Sid Parissi will give a half hour presentation, and then there will be political discussion for an hour or so. Hope you can join the conversation.

Eco-workers
The environmental crisis that we face is the result of greed for power and profit. We recognise that capitalism cannot solve the environmental crisis it has created. Without revolutionary change to the way our societies operate we risk a future of unjust hardship and irreversible environmental destruction.
It is both possible and imperative to avoid this future.
Our alternative vision is of a world based on the principles of sustainability, workers' control and mutual aid. In this world all people will enjoy freedom, justice and equality. This world can only be created by those who make the products and perform the services: workers. Together we can creatively and collectively build the sustainable solutions we need.
Our group aims to engage with rank and file unionists, progressive environmental activists and everyday people. Through grassroots organising we will help build a popular revolutionary movement to create a better world. We welcome you to join us.
Come along to the next eco-workers meeting or send an email to jura[at]jura.org.au to get involved.

Environmental Crisis: Workers Solutions discussion
Jura Books
This discussion is a practical follow up to the forum Jura hosted recently. We are hoping to focus on practical activities we can take to progress the enviro/worker politics that we began to develop at the forum. Possible ideas include a leaflet, a workshop at Flare in the Void, or another event/film screening. All welcome!
